ST. PAUL, MINN. - The University of Northwestern women's soccer team honored their seniors
Samantha Colombo (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors),
Maddie Leever (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny Christian), and
Emily Michaelson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) in their final regular season home match. The Eagles hosted the Rams of North Central (5-12-0, 2-10-0 UMAC) in the Saturday afternoon contest. Northwestern wins the match by a final score of 5-0. With the victory, UNW finishes their regular season 9-6-4 overall and 9-2-1 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play.
The Eagles offense was on the attack in the first frame, outshooting the Rams 18-0. The North Central defense did not fold, however, as they kept UNW out of the goal. The score was 0-0 entering the halftime break.
The Northwestern offense exploded in the second half, scoring five unanswered goals.
Emily Michaelson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) got the scoring going from an
Alexis Albrecht (Fargo, N.D./Sheyenne) corner kick. Up next,
Anna Welch (Lakeville, Minn./Homeschool) found the back of the net with help from
Emily Daubenmier (Kijabe, KE./Rift Valley Academy). Less than 15 seconds after Welch's goal,
Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) scored off of deep pass from
Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Homeschool). Currie continued to spread the ball around, assisting Michaelson on her second goal of the contest.
Maddie Leever (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny Christian) got in on the action as well, scoring a penalty kick goal.
The Eagles will begin post-season play next Wednesday, October 31 by hosting the semi-final match of the conference tournament. For more information, fans can visit
