ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team welcomed the Martin Luther Knights (3-13-0, 3-7-0 UMAC) in a Saturday afternoon conference matchup. The Eagles defeated the Knights by a final score of 1-0. With the win, UNW moves to 7-6-4 overall and 7-2-1 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play.
The Eagles were on the offensive attack in the opening frame, tallying 11 shots to the lone shot from the Knights. Martin Luther held strong for the 45 minutes of play, and did not allow a UNW goal. The score was 0-0 entering halftime.
Northwestern kept up the pressure in the second half, adding 22 shots in the period. The Knights kept UNW out of the scoring column until
Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Homeschool) was able to net a goal assisted by
Anna Welch (Lakeville, Minn./Homeschool) in the final five minutes of play, securing the 1-0 victory.
