ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team hosted Northland College in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference [UMAC] contest Wednesday evening inside the Ericksen Center. The Eagles got the job done, as they soared to a 62-46 victory over the visiting Lumberjills. With the win, the squad improves to 7-5 on the season and 4-0 in league play.
After fronting an 18-8 lead at the close of the first quarter, the home Eagles tacked on 15 more points in the second frame to take a 33-16 advantage at the intermission break. Never losing the lead throughout the final two frames, UNW went on to secure the evening victory, 62-46, over NC.
The Eagles shot an impressive 41.7 percent from the hardwood, which outshined the Lumberjills 29.3 percent from the field. As a team, UNW also concluded the game with 40 rebounds [13 OFF, 27 DEF], 21 steals, 17 assists, and three blocks.
Junior
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) led all scorers with 21 points, going 9-for-17 from the floor. She also added 10 rebounds to her stat line to cash in a double-double, while also recording five assists and six steals.
Taryn Tumbleson (Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West) also had a solid night, as she netted a career-high 20 points. The junior guard also snatched nine steals, grabbed five boards, and collected three assists, respectively.
