ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team hosted Finlandia University [4-12 overall] in a non-conference matchup inside the Ericksen Center Saturday afternoon. The Eagles were able to recover from a loss on Wednesday evening, securing a dominant 87-50 win over the Lions. With the victory, UNW rises to 9-10 on the season.
Northwestern started off strong, as Junior
Caleb Hageman (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) and Sophomore
Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) combining for 17 of the Eagles' first 24 points. Defense was also the name of the game in the first half, as UNW held FU to a 33.3 percent shooting from the field, and only gave up 25 points on the period.
Taking a 36-25 lead into the intermission break, Northwestern shot 44.4 percent from the hardwood and just over 33 percent from behind the arc.
UNW cracked the whip to start the second half, jumping out on a 13-2 run. The scoring did not stop after that, as the Eagles lead continued to grow the entire rest of the game. The teams hot shooting helped the home squad secure the mid-day contest, 87-50, over the visiting Lions.
Eleven Eagles made it into the scoring column, with Hageman leading the way with 20 points and nine rebounds. Youngberg added a double-double on the afternoon as he ended with 17 points and 11 boards, while Senior
Isaiah Rahier (Northome, Minn./Northome) tallied 14 points, respectively.
