ST. PAUL - In the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) game of the week, a fourth down, goal line touchdown by St. Scholastica with 2:41 remaining proved fatal for the University of Northwestern. The Eagles were unable to respond and came up short in their homecoming game by a 14-7 score, in front of a standing room only crowd of well over 2,000 at Reynolds Field on Saturday. With the loss, UNW falls to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the UMAC.
The lone touchdown of the day was courtesy of the legs of junior quarterback
Taylor Lindahl (Watertown, S.D./Watertown), as the Eagles' signal caller followed his offensive line into the end zone on a one-yard plunge. Lindahl finished the day with 72 yards passing. In a two-headed rushing attack,
Dom McDew (Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley) led the way with 53 yards on 13 carries.
Payton Bowdry (Minneapolis, Minn./South) also rumbled for 41 yards on 12 carries.
Evan Pruitt (Temecula, Calif./Rancho Christian High School) led the Eagles in receiving with 37 yards on a pair of receptions.
In a low scoring day on both sides, the UNW defense put together an impressive performance, once again coming up with some timely turnovers throughout the contest.
Daniel Stratton (Lucerne Valley, Calif./Lucerne Valley) continued his strong season on Saturday, racking up 11 tackles and forcing a fumble when the Saints were in UNW territory. Freshman
Noah MacDonald (Fennville, Mich./Fennville) 11 tackles, 1.5 of which were for a loss. Ben Johnson found himself in the CSS backfield early and often, coming away with a sack, two tackles for loss, and a forced fumble.
Nick Swore (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian) came up with an interception in Northwestern territory, assisted by a tipped pass by teammate
Caleb Sieben (Anoka, Minn./Anoka).
Gideon Burnham (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson) also picked off a pass, returning it to the St. Scholastica seven yard line in the first half. Senior
Chris Compton (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park) added a clutch blocked field goal in the fourth quarter.
Northwestern will take to the road again, traveling to Illinois on Saturday to take on MacMurray College at noon.
