MORRIS, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team [2-4-1, 2-0-1 UMAC] took on the University of Minnesota Morris [3-3-1, 1-0-1 UMAC] in an afternoon contest Tuesday. The Eagles put together a strong 110-minute battle, as the game resulted in a 2-2 draw.
Throughout the first 45:00 period, neither team was able to find the net, keeping the scoreboard leveled 0-0 at the halftime break.
Taking on the second half with a fierce attack, UMM managed to knock in the first goal of the game, scoring at the 56' mark. By the 74' minute, UNW's
Anna Hitterdal (St. Louis Park, Minn./Southwest Christian) was able to equalize the score, 1-1, as she sank a ball from teammate
Mary Ellen Raverty (Mankato, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran).
At the 84', Morris tapped in their second, but Northwestern's
Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) answered back with a goal, making it a 2-2 ball game.
Continuing the hard-fought battle, both teams had to use two overtime periods to decipher a winner, but neither team could find the net before time ran out. The match settled in a 2-2 draw.
As a team, Northwestern recorded 31 shots [15 SOG], which outshined Morris's 18 shots [9 SOG].
UNW's stat leaders on the afternoon match were Norman [9S / 4 SOG / 1G], Hitterdal [4S / 3 SOG / 1G], and Raverty [2S / 1 SOG / 1A]. Guarding the cage the entire 110-minutes, Goalkeeper
