ASHLAND, Wis. – The No. 10 University of Northwestern volleyball team picked up a pair of Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) wins Saturday, defeating Minnesota Morris 3-1 before sweeping Northland College in a conference triangular. With the two victories, UNW improves to 9-3 on the season.
UNW 3, Minnesota Morris 1 (25-19, 21-25, 26-24, 25-21)
In a highly-competitive match, it was the Eagles who bounced back from a second set loss to pick up a hard-fought third-set win to propel them to a 3-1 victory over the Cougars.
Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) once again carried the workload, as the senior slammed a match-high 21 kills while adding 14 digs for a double-double. She also added four service aces.
Mariah Halvorsen (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) joined Peterson in the double-digit kills category, flooring 12 to help ignite UNW's offense.
Jenay Fuglestad (Maple Grove, Minn./Heritage Christian) was a force in the middle, racking up four blocks to lead all players, while
Jackie Doering (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) posted 21 digs from her libero position.
Leesa Malone (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) helped orchestrate Northwestern's strong attack, contributing 28 assists.
UNW 3, Northland 0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-8)
The Eagles cruised to a dominant sweep of the host Lumber Jills thanks to an offensive attack that compiled a .515 hitting percentage while holding Northland to a .030 hitting percentage. UNW posted nine service aces to NC's one.
Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) added to her already impressive resume with 17 kills.
Mariah Halvorsen (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) (9) and
Jalyn Larson (Drayton, N.D./Drayton) (8) also had strong outings. Larson added three blocks, while
Abby Neuberger (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) notched 10 digs.
Leesa Malone (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) and
Kaelyn Kilbo (Delano, Minn./Delano) handled the setting duties, recording 23 and 13 assists, respectively.
