ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern baseball team split with Carleton College (7-11) Saturday at Reynolds Field. The Eagles move to 10-14 on the year.
Game One
Brett Reinhart (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) smashed a game-winning three-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh to give the Eagles a 10-8 victory. Northwestern put up a combined seven runs in the first three frames and then were shutout the next three frames before Reinhart's blast.
Braxton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) stayed hot at the plate, as the senior finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI.
Tyler Osborn (Clive, Iowa/Des Moines Christian),
Nathan Ehnstrom (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) and Reinhart all smacked two hits apiece, while Reinhart finished with four RBI and Osborn three.
Reinhart also got the win on the mound, as the right-hander tossed a scoreless two innings in relief. Jake Franzen started the game on the bump and worked the first four innings before
Ben Skolbekken (Andover, Minn./Anoka Ramsey CC) threw the fifth.
Game Two
In a high-scoring affair, the Knights used a combined nine runs in the first two innings to secure the split. UNW did all of its damage in the first and second, scoring four in the opening frame and three in the second.
Tyler Osborn (Clive, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) highlighted the scoring, as the senior blasted his team-leading eighth homer of the season in the bottom of the second. He finished with a pair of hits, three RBI and a stolen base.
Ryan Sutterer (Anoka, Minn./Anoka ) had a big game at the dish, tallying three hits in four trips to the plate, while
Braxton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) knocked a double.
Starting pitcher
Nick Pilz (Stacy, Minn./North Branch) was tagged with the loss, throwing 1.1 innings. He surrendered seven runs on two hits.
