ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team came up short against Northland College [3-7 overall] Wednesday evening on their home turf. The visiting Lumberjacks won the contest, 11-2, over the Eagles. With the loss, the purple and gold drop to 4-5 on the season.
After NC took a 2-1 lead at the close of the first frame, the visiting team went on the net four more goals in the second period to take a 6-1 lead at the intermission break. Though UNW battled hard all throughout the two remaining quarters, adding one more goal to the scoreboard, it was Northland who came out on top to secure an 11-2 win on the night's competition.
On the offensive front,
Derek Stone (Ramsey, Minn./PACT Charter) and
Noah Vander Kooi (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) each recorded a lone goal on the contest, respectively.
Showing a lot of grit on the defensive end,
Steven Soto (Kenosha, Wis. /Bradford) won 7-of-16 face offs, while teammate
Gabe Moulier (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) noted a career-high five caused turnovers for the Eagles.
As a team, UNW recorded 29 shots [13 SOG], picked up 22 grounders, and went 17-25 on clears.
