LISLE, ILL. – The University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team struggled in Thursday evening's road battle at Benedictine University [5-9 overall], dropping the contest 15-4 to the home team. With the shortfall, the Eagles drop to 4-6 on the season.
In the opening two frames, BU used a powerful offensive attack to outscore UNW, taking a 9-2 lead at the halftime break.
Though the purple and gold won the third period [2-1], the red and black went on to net five more goal on the final quarter to seal a 15-4 win on the night's competition.
Putting together an impressive performance, Freshman
Noah Vander Kooi (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) sank three goals on the game, while Sophomore
Derek Stone (Ramsey, Minn./PACT Charter) netted one. Vander Kooi also collected two grounders, as Stone also scooped two and forced one caused turnover.
On the defensive end, Goalkeeper
Zach Shockencey (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) caught 18 saves on the contest, respectively.
As a team, Northwestern tallied a grand total 11 shots [8 SOG], 26 ground balls, and finished 14-25 on clears.
