MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Northwestern softball team (14-18, 10-4 UMAC) split Friday's doubleheader on the road at Minnesota Morris (9-27, 4-10 UMAC). The Eagles picked up a thrilling 2-0 extra-inning win in game one before falling in game two, 9-0.
Game One
In a pitcher's dual, the Eagles and Cougars needed eight innings to decide a winner.
UNW scored its runs when
Jennifer Ankrom (New Hampton, Iowa/New Hampton) tripled to right field to bring
Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) around to score. Ankrom then crossed the plate on
Colleen Feldheim (Northfield, Ill./Loyola Academy)'s RBI groundout.
Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis) hurled a gem, scattering just five hits in eight innings of work, while not allowing a run to pick up her sixth win of the season.
Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) led a balanced attack at the plate, as the sophomore knocked a pair of hits.
Game Two
UNW was unable to generate any offense in game two and the Cougars scored a combined seven runs in the second and third innings to pick up the run-rule victory.
Moriah Maunu (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) was tagged with the loss after getting the start in the circle. The freshman also picked up UNW's lone hit in the contest.
