Eagles Hand Saints First UMAC Loss; Split Saturday’s DH

ST. PAUL – Less than 24 hours after picking up an exhilarating sweep of UW-Superior, the University of Northwestern softball team (13-17, 9-3) was back in action at Reynolds Field. The Eagles came to play again, as they handed the College of St. Scholastica (18-12, 11-1) its first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) loss of the season with a 4-2 win in game two of Saturday's doubleheader. The Saints grabbed game one, 14-5.

Game One
CSS scored in every inning including four runs in the second and five runs in the seventh to take the series opener.

UNW did its damage in back-to-back frames, plating a pair in the fourth before tacking on three more in the fifth.

Kaylee Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) and Collen Feldheim provided a pair of hits each, while Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) drew two walks, scored a run and tallied an RBI.

Abbie Nelson (Holdrege, Neb./Holdrege) was the losing pitcher, as the freshman surrendered four earned runs in two innings of work.

Game Two
Moriah Maunu (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) delivered a two-run single in the second inning and Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis) surrendered just six hits in her complete-game effort in the circle. The senior fanned two and didn't issue a walk, while allowing the two runs.

After CSS narrowed the gap to 2-1 in the top of the fifth, UNW responded in the home half of the frame with a pair of runs, as Jennifer Ankrom (New Hampton, Iowa/New Hampton) brought home Kaylee Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) with her fielders choice before Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) crossed home thanks to Colleen Feldheim (Northfield, Ill./Loyola Academy)'s sacrifice fly.

The Eagles will return to the diamond Tuesday when they travel to Minnesota Morris for a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
