Northwestern Falls To Southwestern On Senior Day

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's lacrosse team came up short to Southwestern University [8-7 overall] Friday evening at Reynolds Field. The Eagles dropped the challenge, 21-10, to the visiting Pirates. With the deficit, UNW falls to 10-5 on the season.
 
SU got on the board early, as they netted the opening two goals of the game. Then, fighting her way through Southwestern defense, Eugenia Chamberlain (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) sank Northwestern's first goal to raise the score 1-2. By the 23:21 mark, Hannah Shands (Hugo, Minn./Mahtomedi) knocked in another for the purple and gold to tie the game 2-2. As both continued to exchange goals, it was the gold and black who fronted the lead at the intermission break [11-5]. 

Throughout the second period, UNW battled in their best efforts, tallying five more goals on the match, as SU sank 10 to run away with a 21-10 win on the day's competition. 

Closing the contest, Chamberlain led the squad with two goals [1-for-3 on FPS], three assists, eight grounders, four caused turnovers, and four draw controls. Jordyn Broberg (Mahtomedi, Minn./Montomedi), Shands, and Talia Sherry (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) also played well as they each tabbed two goals apiece for the Eagles. Shands also won two draw controls and picked up two grounders, while Broberg tabbed four draw controls. Sherry also noted a lone assist, two grounders, and won one draw.

Finishing strong, Annie Ellis (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) and Molly Repp (Minburn, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) each added a goal to the scoreboard, respectively. 

On the defensive end, Goalkeeper Sydney Werlein (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) tallied an impressive 13 saves for Northwestern. 
 
As a team, UNW totaled 18 shots [18 SOG], scooped 21 ground balls, won 11 draw controls, and went 16-27 on clears.
