ASHLAND, WIS. – The University of Northwestern women's lacrosse team wrapped up its season against Northland College [1-13 overall] Saturday afternoon. Finishing on a strong note, the Eagles notched an 18-8 victory over the Lumberjills to finalize an 11-5 record on the 2017 term.
As a collective group, five Eagles found success throughout the first 30:00 frame to help UNW boost a 9-0 lead at the intermission break.
With efforts that didn't quit, Northwestern went on to net nine more goals on the second period, securing an 18-8 win over the home team.
Sophomore midfielder
Hannah Shands (Hugo, Minn./Mahtomedi) put together an impressive performance, as she netted five goals, scooped a career-high 16 ground balls, and forced one caused turnover on the contest. Senior midfielder
Eugenia Chamberlain (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) finished in high standings, netting four goals on the game, while freshman attacker
Talia Sherry (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) collected three. Chamberlain also tacked on four assists and picked up 11 ground balls, respectively.
Freshman attacker
Annie Ellis (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) and sophomore midfielder
Jordyn Broberg (Mahtomedi, Minn./Montomedi) competed well, sinking two goals apiece on the contest, while senior attackers
Danielle Winkelmann (Hector, Minn./Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart) and
Molly Repp (Minburn, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) each buried one.
On the defensive end, Goalkeeper
Sydney Werlein (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) caught eight saves, finishing the season with a grand total of 114.
As a team, Northwestern outshined Northland in both shots [43] and shots on goal [35] on the competition.
