Softball Grabs Pair of Wins At Northland

ASHLAND, WIS. – The University of Northwestern softball team capped off the week with an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference [UMAC] doubleheader victory at Northland College [4-22, 3-5 UMAC] on Friday afternoon. The Eagles locked down a 7-5 defeat in game one before picking up a 9-0 triumph in game two. With the wins, UNW improves to 10-16 on the season and 6-2 in conference play.
 
GAME ONE
In the opening inning, the bats came alive for the visiting team, as the Eagles collected four runs. By the end of the third frame, Northland tied the score 4-4, but it was Northwestern who would come out on top, snatching a 7-5 success in game one. 
 
Kaylee Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) led the offensive attack, totaling three runs for the purple and gold. Teammates Jennifer Ankrom (New Hampton, Iowa/New Hampton), Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins), Colleen Feldheim (Northfield, Ill./Loyola Academy), and Ellen Larkin (Excelsior, Minn./Southwest Christian)g also had strong showings as they each added one run, respectively.
 
On the game, UNW recorded a grand total 29 at bats, 10 hits, and 7 RBI's.  
 
 
GAME TWO
On the second battle of the day, the Eagles got on the board early, tabbing two runs in the first inning. With strong offensive efforts, Northwestern went on to score seven more runs on the remaining rounds to seal a 9-0 victory in game two.
 
The Forcier sisters stayed hot, collecting two runs each, while Larkin logged three. Ann Lokke (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis) and Moriah Maunu (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) also put together solid performances, noting one run apiece, respectively.
 
As a team, Northwestern totaled 26 at bats, 10 hits, and 9 RBI's.

The squad will battle off next at the University of Wisconsin-Superior [13-12, 6-4 UMAC] on Wednesday, April 19, in another conference doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 3:30 p.m. A full recap following the day's contests can be found at www.unweagles.com.
