ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern softball team (8-16, 4-2 UMAC) swept visiting Bethany Lutheran College (8-20, 4-4 UMAC) Tuesday at Reynolds Field. The Eagles won a pitchers duel, 2-1, in the opener before picking up a 9-1 run-rule victory in game two.
Game One
Freshman
Abbie Nelson (Holdrege, Neb./Holdrege) fanned seven Vikings and
Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) scored the game-winning run after delivering a double and then scoring on the same play after an error by the left fielder.
Colleen Feldheim (Northfield, Ill./Loyola Academy) drove in
Megan Threlkeld (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville) in the bottom of the first for UNW's other run. Feldheim led the UNW offense with a pair of hits.
Nelson went the distance in the circle, surrendering just one run on six hits to secure her fourth win of the season.
Game Two
Northwestern scored three runs in the third and again in the sixth to earn the run-rule win, 9-1.
Ann Lokke (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis) and
Moriah Maunu (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) both finished with two hits, while
Jennifer Ankrom (New Hampton, Iowa/New Hampton),
Brooke Pazurek (Austin, Minn./Austin) and Lokke all tallied a pair of RBI. Pazurek's two runs batted in came via a double to left-center in the fourth.
Kaylee Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins), Mindy Foricer and Ankrom all came around to score two runs.
Maunu picked up her second win of the season, as the freshman hurled four innings, allowing just one run on six hits.
Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis) pitched a scoreless two innings in relief, giving up just one hit.
