GREENVILLE, Ill. – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team came up short against Greenville College (20-9) in Saturday's National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) North Central Regional final. The host Panthers defeated the Eagles by a final score of 70-55 to advance to the NCCAA National Tournament. UNW ends its season 18-10 overall.
After Greenville built a 15-11 lead after quarter number one, the Panthers put together a strong second quarter to take a 40-28 advantage into the locker room. The Eagles would respond in the third, outscoring Greenville 15-11 in the third frame, but it wasn't enough as Greenville took home the 70-55 victory.
Tiffany Stubbs (Ames, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) led a trio of Eagles in double figures, as the guard poured in 15 points, including three 3-pointers.
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) chipped in 13 points, while
Andrea Zimpel (Isle, Minn./Isle) reached double digits for the second-straight night with 12 points – Zimpel cashed in four 3-pointers to aid the offensive attack.
The Eagles shot 32.3 percent from the floor, while holding Greenville to a 29.2 field goal percentage.
UNW will say goodbye to four seniors, as the
Tiffany Stubbs (Ames, Iowa/Des Moines Christian),
Emily VanLith (Minot, N.D./Our Redeemers),
Rachel Hart (Elgin, Minn./Home School) and
Jessica Brown (Watford City, N.D./Watford City) all played their final game in a Northwestern uniform Saturday.
