KENOSHA, WIS. – The University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team came up short to Carthage College [4-1], 1-15, Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Eagles drop to 0-2 on the season.
Throughout the first two periods of play, the battle became a testing match for UNW. The home team managed to sink four goals in the first frame and five in the second, fronting a 9-0 lead at intermission.
With solid stickhandling abilities and a threatening attack, the Red Men held the Eagles to another scoreless half, as the match came to a 15-1 final score in CC's favor.
Keller Stephens (Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View ) had a strong showing on the game, as the freshman attacker posted the team's lone goal. Concluding the match, Stephens also noted four shots and scooped four ground balls.
Gavin Welch (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) and
Noah Vander Kooi (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) also put forth tremendous efforts, as Welch added four shots and one ground ball, while Vander Kooi marked two apiece.
As a collective group, UNW ended the contest with a grand total of 13 shots, eight shots on goal, 19 ground balls, and went 16-23 on clears. On the defensive end, Goalkeeper
Zach Shockencey (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) recorded an impressive 13 saves, respectively.
