DUBUQUE, IOWA. – The University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team came up short in a 14-3 contest against the University of Dubuque [6-4] Friday evening in Dubuque, Iowa. With the loss, the Eagles drop to 3-4 on the season.
Taking on the first 15:00 frame, UNW knocked in two goals to outshine UD's one, to help front a 2-1 lead at the close of the period. The next quarter was a physical test for Northwestern, as Dubuque held the purple and gold to only one goal, while they netted five to take a 6-3 lead into the halftime break.
Throughout the final two periods of play, the Spartans sank eight more goals, keeping the Eagles from scoring any, to secure the 14-3 win on the night's competition.
Midfielder
Noah Vander Kooi (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) tapped in two goals for Northwestern, while also scooping three grounders and forcing one caused turnover. Following suit, teammate
Gavin Welch (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) buried one goal and tabbed one assist on the game, while also gathering two ground balls.
On the defensive end, Goalkeeper
Zach Shockencey (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) played an outstanding game, as he finished the contest with an impressive 15 saves.
As a team, the Eagles concluded with a grand total 22 shots, 18 ground balls, and went 11-12 on clears.
