ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern softball team dropped both ends of a twinbill with Augsburg College (12-6) Thursday evening at Reynolds Field. The Eagles fell 8-1 in game one and 13-2 in the nightcap. Northwestern moves to 4-12 on the season.
Game One
The visiting Auggies scored twice in the opening frame and never looked back, using a five-run third to earn an 8-1 win.
The Eagles manufactured their run in the bottom of the first when
Ellen Larkin (Excelsior, Minn./Southwest Christian) rounded the bases after drawing a walk early in the inning.
Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins),
Kaylee Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) and
Ciara Scheithauer (Rib Lake, Wis./Rib Lake) were responsible for UNW's three hits in the contest. Freshman
Abbie Nelson (Holdrege, Neb./Holdrege) was tagged with the loss in the circle after the right-hander allowed eight runs on 11 hits in seven innings of work.
Game Two
Augsburg built a 5-0 lead in the top of the third, but UNW clawed away at the deficit with a pair of runs in the home half of the inning to put the score 5-2. The Auggies responded with two runs in the fifth and tacked on six more in the sixth to earn the run-rule victory.

Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) in the third for the Eagles' first run and
Ellen Larkin (Excelsior, Minn./Southwest Christian) delivered an RBI groundout to plate
Kaylee Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) to account for run No. 2.
Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) led the offensive attack, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis) suffered the loss, as the senior went the distance.
