Softball Drops Saturday’s DH With UW-Stout

ST. PAUL — The University of Northwestern softball team lost both games of a doubleheader with University of Wisconsin-Stout (18-10) on Saturday afternoon at Reynolds Field.  The Eagles lost 2-1 in game one and 9-0 in the second.  Northwestern moves to 4-14 on the season.

Game One
Abbie Nelson (Holdrege, Neb./Holdrege) and Beth Wood traded zeroes until the sixth inning when both starters gave up a run.  Nelson, the Northwestern starter, didn't give up a hit until the third inning and Stout only managed five hits off of her.

In the bottom of the 6th the Eagles manufactured a run when Kaylee Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) led off with a double, Megan Threlkeld (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville) moved her over and then she scored on Jennifer Ankrom (New Hampton, Iowa/New Hampton)'s fielders choice.

Kaylee Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) was the offensive star of the game as she delivered two hits, scored a run, and was hit by a pitch. Jennifer Ankrom (New Hampton, Iowa/New Hampton) reached base twice as well as providing the sole Eagle RBI.

In the seventh, the Blue Devils scored again to give them the victory.

Game Two
The Blue Devils used five hits to put up five runs in the top of the fourth to take a 6-0 lead.  They then took advantage of a couple of errors in the fifth to put up three more runs in the frame to get the run-rule victory in five innings.

Sydney Iedema (Archer, Iowa/Sheldon) produced the sole Eagle hit in the contest as well as drawing a walk.  Kaylee Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) also reached twice as she drew a walk and also got hit by a pitch.

Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis) suffered the loss as she surrendered six runs over four innings of work.

The Eagles next play a doubleheader at Crown College on Wednesday with first pitch being at 3:30 p.m. Fans can find more information on the softball program by visiting www.unweagles.com.
