Eagles Earn Split Tuesday at Macalester

ST. PAUL – Behind Abbie Nelson (Holdrege, Neb./Holdrege)'s gem in the circle, the University of Northwestern softball team earned a split at Macalester College Tuesday evening. The Eagles move to 4-10 on the season.

Game One
In a pitchers dual, Northwestern pushed the lone run of the game across in the top of the third to secure the win. Abbie Nelson (Holdrege, Neb./Holdrege) was lights out, as the freshman went the distance, not allowing a run and striking out three.

Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) put the Eagles on the board after she singled, advanced to second on Ciara Scheithauer (Rib Lake, Wis./Rib Lake)'s sacrifice bunt, stole third and then scored on a Macalester throwing error.

Megan Threlkeld (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville) recorded the other base knock for UNW.

Game Two
Sydney Iedema (Archer, Iowa/Sheldon) generated the Eagles' only hit at the plate in game two, as Sophie Migacz threw a complete-game shutout.

Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis) went toe-for-toe with the Scots' ace, as she allowed just one run on eight hits in six innings of work.

UNW will host Augsburg College Thursday in its home opener at Reynolds Field. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is set for 4 p.m. Fans can find more information on the softball program at www.unweagles.com.
