ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern women's lacrosse team held off Midland University Thursday night, 13-12, at Reynolds Field to move its win streak to seven. The Eagles improve to 7-1 overall, while Midland drops to 4-3.
After the visitors took a 9-8 advantage into the locker room, UNW used a strong defensive effort in the second half to secure the victory. The Warriors looked to have tied the game with five seconds remaining, but their goal was ruled illegal, sealing the win for UNW.
Freshman
Annie Ellis (Farmington, Minn. /Farmington) paced the offensive attack, as she found the back of the net four times.
Jordyn Broberg (Mahtomedi, Minn./Montomedi) racked up three goals and two assists, while
Talia Sherry (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) and
Hannah Shands (Hugo, Minn./Mahtomedi) tallied two goals apiece.
Sydney Werlein (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) picked up the win in goal, posting five saves.
UNW held a 32-24 advantage in shots and won 17 draw controls to Midland's seven.
