Men’s Lacrosse Captures Win In First-Ever Home Game

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team secured its first-ever home win in program history over North Central University [0-3 overall] Tuesday night at Reynolds Field. Boosting their win streak to three, the Eagles advance to 3-3 on the season.

In the opening two minutes of play, Brady Minich (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) buried the first goal of the game to front an early 1-0 lead over the visiting team. Before the close of the opening frame, NCU answered with a lone goal to tie the contest 1-1.

Throughout the second quarter, both teams contributed strong offensive efforts. North Central added another goal to the scoreboard, as Northwestern's Derek Stone (Ramsey, Minn./PACT Charter) and Keller Stephens (Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View ) worked together to collect three to help stretch a 4-2 lead at the intermission break.

Both teams went on to tally two more goals during the course of the final two periods. As the game came to a close, fans roared and teammates exchanged high fives as UNW soared to a historic 6-4 win on their home turf.

Stone put together an outstanding performance, as the sophomore standout concluded the evening with a career-high three goals and one assist. Following suit, Stephens tapped in two goals on the contest, while Minich finished with one and one assist. Stone also scooped six ground balls and forced four caused turnovers, while Stephens picked up two grounders.

On the defensive end, Steven Soto (Kenosha, Wis. /Bradford) went 8-14 on face offs, outshining his competitor by two.

As a collective group, the Eagles totaled 44 shots [18 SOG], 41 ground balls, and went 17-18 on clears.
