UNW Falls in Doubleheader at U.S. Bank Stadium

MINNEAPOLIS – Playing inside the home of Super Bowl LII, the University of Northwestern baseball dropped a doubleheader with Macalester College. Game one got underway late Monday night before the two teams wrapped up the twin bill early Tuesday morning.

Game One
After the Scots jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, UNW responded with a three-run third to go on top. Macalester would answer with six runs in the next two innings before tacking on a pair in the sixth to earn the 10-7 victory. UNW chipped away late, scoring two runs in the home half of the seventh thanks to Tyler Osborn (Clive, Iowa/Des Moines Christian)'s monster two-run homer.

Bradley Spencer (Papillion, NE/Papillion South) scored two runs, had a hit and drew a walk for the Eagles. Micah Williams (Gulfport, Miss. /Christian Collegiate Academy) got the nod on the hill for his first collegiate action, going 2.2 innings. Tori Holt (Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley) – who turns 42 on Wednesday – made his debut and threw a scoreless seventh.

Game Two
In a tight 2-1 game, Macalester scored three times in the fifth to open up a 5-1 lead and would go on to take the game, 6-2. UNW scored its runs in the fifth on an Aaron Krahn (Roseau, Minn./Roseau) RBI single and in the sixth on a Ryan Sutterer (Anoka, Minn./Anoka ) run-scoring single.

Brett Reinhart (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) and Sutterer both went 2-for-4 at the dish, while driving in two RBI each.

Nathan Ehnstrom (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) was tagged with the loss after throwing the first five innings.

The Eagles will next be in action at the end of the week when they travel to Florida for their annual Spring Break trip. Fans can find a complete schedule of the games at www.unweagles.com.
