MINNEAPOLIS – Backed by a balanced scoring attack, the University of Northwestern men's basketball team picked up a 70-58 conference road win over North Central University (3-5, 1-1) Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Northwestern held a narrow edge at the break (31-29) before outscoring host NCU by 10 (39-29) in the final 20 minutes.
Five Eagles reached double figures, as
Caleb Hageman (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) led the way with his 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including a trio of 3-pointers.
Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area) netted 13 points and
Colton Simmer (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) 12, while
Isaiah Rahier (Northome, Minn./Northome) and
Taylor Slagter (Roseland, Minn./CMCS) chipped in 10 each. Slagter also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to notch a double-double. Rahier dished out four helpers and swiped three steals.
UNW shot it well at the charity stripe, finishing 16-of-19 (84.2 percent), while only committing nine turnovers.
The Eagles will continue their UMAC schedule next Wednesday when they play host to Crown College. Tip-off inside the Ericksen Center is set for 5:30 p.m.
