DULUTH, MINN - The No. 7 Northwestern volleyball team started off Friday's match at St. Scholastica slower than usual, but found its groove in the second set and rolled to a sweep of the Saints. With the win, the Eagles improved to 21-3 overall, 11-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, and extended their winning streak to an astounding 16 games.
In the 25-23, 25-14, 25-11 win, the Eagles were led once again by
Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork), who tallied 20 kills, nine digs, five blocks, and two aces.
Kayla Tanner (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) continued her strong play with 10 kills and five blocks of her own.
Leesa Malone (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) (19) and
Kaelyn Kilbo (Delano, Minn./Delano) (14) led the way in assists, while
Jackie Doering (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) notched a game-high 15 digs. Additionally,
Abby Neuberger (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) and
Freya Hanson (Otsego, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) each aced the Saints twice, and Jenay Fuglestad registered five blocks.
It will be a quick turn-around for the red-hot Eagles, as they travel to Eau Claire, Wisconsin on Saturday to participate in the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Tournament. UNW is scheduled to play No. 15 Millikin University at 2 PM and the College of St. Benedict at 4 PM.
