UNW Earns 5-0 Shutout Win Over BLC

MANKATO, MINN. – In Wednesday's conference matchup against Bethany Lutheran College [3-8, 2-4 UMAC], the University of Northwestern women's soccer team secured a 5-0 shutout victory over the Knights. With the win, the Eagles improve to 5-5-1 overall and remain in first place [5-0-1] in UMAC play.

Northwestern didn't waste any time getting on the board, as Anna Welch (Lakeville, Minn./Homeschool) and Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) knocked in a goal a piece by the 13' mark to front a 2-0 lead. Helping out in the action was Anna Martinson (Apple Valley, Minn./Homeschool), who earned the assist on Welch's goal.

The Eagles continued to put their best foot forward, as Norman netted another for the purple and gold at the 17-minute mark. Then, Emily Goeppinger (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) came up big, as she found the back of the net to help the Eagles take a 4-0 advantage into the locker room. Contributing to the success, Megan Larsen (Appleton, Wis./Appleton East) tabbed the assist on Goeppinger's goal.

Maintaining a wide lead at the intermission break, UNW managed to fire off an impressive eight shots, which outshined BLC's three.

As the second period got underway, Emily Daubenmier (Kijabe, KE./Rift Valley Academy) sank the fifth and final goal of the game, allowing the Eagles to capture a 5-0 win over the home team. In her solid efforts, Kimi Compton (Rosemount, Minn./Apple Valley) was credited the assist, respectively.

Concluding the contest, UNW totaled 18 shots [11 SOG], while BLC finished with four shots [3 SOG].

Northwestern's game leaders on the competition were Norman [6S / 2 SOG / 2G], Larsen [4S / 4 SOG / 1A], Welch [1S / 1 SOG / 1G], Goeppinger [1S / 1 SOG / 1G], Daubenmier [1S / 1 SOG / 1G], and Martinson [1S / 1 SOG / 1A].
