First Place Eagles Down Minnesota Morris

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team moved to a perfect 6-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play with a 69-51 win over Minnesota Morris (8-5, 4-2) Saturday. The first place Eagles better their record to 9-4 overall.

After a back-and-forth first few minutes of play, UNW went on a 10-0 run to build a 13-point (35-22) halftime lead. UNW then poured in 34 second-half points to remain unbeaten in UMAC games.

Porter Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Home School) led a trio of Eagles in double figures, as the senior poured in 16 points after cashing in on four 3-pointers. Cody Sprenger (Grey Eagle, Minn./Long Prairie-Grey Eagle) followed with 15 points, while Will Gisler (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) secured a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

UNW shot 39.7 percent (27-of-68) from the field and 37 percent (10-of-27) from beyond the arc. UMM finished hitting 33.9 percent from the floor and 26.1 percent from 3-point range. Northwestern committed just seven turnovers.
