ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern men's tennis team opened its season with a sweep of North Central University Saturday afternoon before falling to Bethel University 9-0 in the nightcap.

CJ Lloyd (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, while
Landon Ridpath (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech ) and
Colton Paskewitz (Browerville, Minn/Staples) picked up convincing wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, to help the Eagles take control early. Lloyd and
Sam Bostrom (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) earned an 8-0 win in doubles action to secure the sweep.
BU 9, UNW 0
Landon Ridpath (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech ) battled at No. 2 singles and
CJ Lloyd (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) showed grit at No. 1 singles, but it wasn't enough as the Royals shut out UNW in Saturday's second contest.
