UNW Hits The Road For UMAC Showdown at Iowa Wesleyan

ST. PAUL – The 4-0 University of Northwestern football team will hit the road this week for an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) contest at Iowa Wesleyan University (1-3). Kickoff in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, is set for 1 p.m.

THE NORTHWESTERN FILE
The Eagles enter Saturday's matchup a perfect 4-0 after most recently defeating Martin Luther College last weekend 38-20 at Reynolds Field. In UNW's four wins this season, the Eagles have surrendered just 20 points.

A LOOK AT THE OPPONENT
The Tigers come into Saturday's contest 1-3 overall and 1-2 in UMAC play after most recently dropping a heartbreaker (28-27) at Minnesota Morris last week. Last year at Reynolds Field, UNW cruised to a 57-7 victory over IWU on Homecoming.

DOMINANT DEFENSE
The storyline of 2016 has been UNW's stout defense. The Eagles posted three-straight shutouts to open the season and rank fifth in Division III in scoring defense, surrendering just five points per game.

CATCH HIM IF YOU CAN
Senior running back and return specialist, Kyle Anenson (Chanhassen, Minn./Chanhassen), had a monster game against MLC. The speedster returned the opening kickoff 85 to the house before scoring on touchdown runs of four and 25 yards in the third quarter. For his efforts, Anenson was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week.

TALLEY LEADS TEAM USA
UNW Head Coach Kirk Talley was given the honor of leading the Team USA Football team at the World University Championships this past May and June in Monterrey, Mexico. The team played against Japan, China, Guatemala and Mexico in the round-robin style championship format.

IN THE POLLS
After finishing runner-up in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) a season ago, UNW was tabbed to finish second in the league in last week's UMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. St. Scholastica was selected as the preseason favorite after putting together a perfect conference slate last fall. The Eagles and Saints will meet Oct. 15 in Duluth.

GOOD WORK, GREENER
UNW senior linebacker Ben Greener (Foley, Minn./Home School) was nominated for the 2016 America Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team. The Eagles' leading tackler in 2015 was one of 165 college football players nominated for the prestigious award that recognizes those committed to service and enriching the lives of others
