ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team (2-4-1, 1-2 UMAC) took on Martin Luther College (4-4, 2-1 UMAC) on Saturday evening at Reynolds Field in its homecoming contest. The Eagles gave outstanding efforts, as they claimed a 4-2 victory over the Knights.
Throughout the first period, both teams traded possessions up until the 32' mark when
Nathan Olin (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) tapped in his first goal on the season to boost UNW to a 1-0 lead. Teammate
Derrick Aminga (Andover, Minn./Andover) managed to note the assist.
Shortly following Olin's goal, Northwestern's
Mateusz Gralinski (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi) sank his first goal on the season, while
Chris Cleope (Waterloo, Iowa./Waterloo West) earned the assist to give the Eagles a strong 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Cleope comrades had strong showings throughout the second half, as the double-duo each recorded 1G and 1A for UNW.
Chris Cleope (Waterloo, Iowa./Waterloo West)'s moment came at the 46', as he netted the teams third to lift Northwestern to a 3-0 lead.
Martin Luther then answered back by scoring their first on the night, which pushed the score 3-1.
Mark Cleope (Waterloo, Iowa./Waterloo West) then dropped the Eagles final goal of the match, as his brother notched his second assist. Cleope's goal increased UNW's lead 4-1. Though MLC noted the last goal of the game, the Eagles came out on top to seal a 4-2 win over the Knights.
As a team, Northwestern recorded 17 shots and eight SOG.

The men will host Crown College on Tuesday, September 27
