UNW Keeps Shutout Streak Alive With 17-0 Victory Over UMM

ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern football team kept its shutout streak alive with a 17-0 win over the visiting University of Minnesota-Morris Saturday night at Reynolds Field. The Eagles outgained the Cougars 349 to 228 en route to moving to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play.

After a scoreless first quarter, freshman Paytow Bowdry capped an eight-play, 80-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown plunge. It was the first career score for the freshman running back.

The Eagles extended their lead to 10-0 with under a minute remaining in the half after Ben Lyons (North Olmstead, Ohio/Ohio Distance & Electronic Learning Academy) connected on a 41-yard field goal attempt.

UNW cushioned its lead to 17-0 when senior signal caller Corban Halbur (Richfield, Minn./Richfield) found Kyle Anenson (Chanhassen, Minn./Chanhassen) out of the backfield on a 55 yard connection early in the fourth and the Eagles' defense continued its dominance to secure the shutout victory.

Senior linebacker Ben Greener (Foley, Minn./Home School) once again paced the defense, posting nine tackles. Gideon Burnham (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson) tallied a sack, while Ben Johnson forced a fumble. Daniel Stratton (Lucerne Valley, Calif./Lucerne Valley) and Aaron Regnier (Hawley, Minn./Hawley) were in on six stops each.

Halbur finished 15-of-26 for 277 yards through the air, finding fellow senior Zach Duerwachter (La Crescent, Minn./La Crescent) five times (80 yards) to lead the passing attack. BJ Foster (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) rushed 13 times for 38 yards to pace UNW's ground game.

The Eagles will look to move to 4-0 when Martin Luther College visits Reynolds Field for Homecoming next Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. Fans can find more information at www.unweagles.com.
