ST. PAUL – With the President of the NCAA in attendance, the No. 25 University of Northwestern volleyball team cruised to a 3-1 win over the University of Wisconsin-Stout Wednesday night inside the Ericksen Center. The Eagles improve to 7-2 overall, while the Blue Devils drop to 7-3. Dr. Mark Emmert and select staff members were on campus Wednesday, meeting with staff and student-athletes and finished their visit by taking in the volleyball match.
After a dominant first set victory from the Eagles, Stout evened the match at a set apiece with a convincing win in set two. UNW rolled in the third and fourth sets to seal the 3-1 match victory.
The win was highlighted by junior
Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork), who surpassed 1,000 career kills with her match-high 16-kill performance. UNW's outside hitter was also strong on the defensive side, racking up 12 digs.
Jackie Doering (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) – who was honored prior to first serve for going over 1,000 career digs this season – tallied 20 digs to lead all players.
Shanay Gonder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) was a force at the net, slamming nine kills, while picking up five blocks.
Abby Vander Galien (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) hit an impressive .571 en route to posting eight kills.
Leesa Hulstrand (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) and
Kaelyn Kilbo (Delano, Minn./Delano) split the setting duties and tallied 19 assists each, while
Freya Hanson (Otsego, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) added 13 digs in the winning effort.
