Eagles Come Up Short at North Central College

NAPERVILLE, ILL. – The University of Northwestern (1-10) women's lacrosse team took on North Central College (8-2) at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium on Saturday afternoon. In what was a competitive match-up, the Eagles fell short 24-4 against the Cardinals in their final road contest.

UNW began the first half with fired up attitudes, seeking to control the tempo of the game. NCC controlled the tempo early, as they found the back of the net five minutes in. The Eagles were up against a hard-fighting team, as the Cardinals went on to score eight unanswered goals. The half wasn't over yet, as Northwestern's Jordyn Broberg (Mahtomedi, Minn./Montomedi) put the Eagles on the scoreboard by sinking a goal with 15:00 left in the half.

North Central then scored five more goals, while UNW's Megan Cotter (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) added one. The first half concluded with a 14-2 score in the Cardinals' favor.

The Eagles continued to battle in the final 30 minutes of play. Though North Central netted the first goal to open the half, the Eagles put forth a tremendous defensive effort, trying their best to hold off the Cardinals as much as possible. Following NCC's opening goal, Broberg nailed her final goal of the contest, as teammate Grace Daggett (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) earned the assist.

Though the Cardinals answered back with five more goals, the Eagles were able to add one with 12:00 remaining in the half. NCC then went on to score four more goals to run away with the 24-4 home victory.

As a team, UNW wrapped up the contest with 10 draw controls, 6 caused turnover, and went 3-3 on clears.

The Eagles will draw off next against the University of Texas-Dallas on Saturday, April 16, for a 1 p.m. home contest at Reynolds Field. More information can be found at www.unweagles.com
