ELMHURST, ILL. – The University of Northwestern (1-9) women's lacrosse team contested against Elmhurst College (3-5) in a stumbling battle at Langhorst Field on Friday night. The Eagles fell short 2-12 to close the evening match.
Though Elmhurst opened by scoring the first goal of the game, UNW took the field with great anticipation to find the back of the net. Following the Bluejays' first goal of the contest, Elmhurst went on to score nine more unanswered, as Northwestern's Jordyn Broberg (Mahtomedi, Minn./Montomedi) put the Eagles on the scoreboard at the 7:00 mark. UNW trailed Elmhurst 1-10 to close the first half.
Constantly throughout the second half, UNW defense made it difficult for Elmhurst to score in Eagle territory. The Bluejays were only able to sink two goals to close the match, as UNW netted one. The second half of the contest resulted in a 2-12 victory in Elmhurst's favor.
Broberg wrapped up the match in strong standing, tallying Northwestern's two goals, as attacker Molly Repp (Minburn, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) closed with an assist for the Eagles. UNW also concluded with 16 ground balls, went 4-8 on clears, had nine draw controls, and attempted five free position shots.
The Eagles will compete against North Central College (Ill.) in Naperville, Ill., tomorrow afternoon. Draw time is set for 1pm. More information can be found at www.unweagles.com.
