SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern's men's tennis team remains perfect at home, after taking on the University of Minnesota-Morris in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) competition at the Johnson Courts at Reynolds Field. The Eagles bested the Cougars (7-2) before traveling up Snelling Avenue to take on the Bethel University Royals (7-2). The Purple and Gold split the contests, heading into the final week of conference play.

The Eagles started the day against the Cougars. UNW snagged all but two singles matches, including a win in No. 1 singles by
Brett Jacobus (Lakeville, Minn. /Lakeville North) (6-3, 6-1) for his first win in the top slot.
Landon Ridpath (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech ) swept his way through No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-0), while
Derek Williams (Zimmerman, Minn./Elk River) dropped just one game in No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-1) for another Eagle point.
Turner Main (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) got his first win in No. 5 singles (6-0, 6-2) to round out singles play against Morris. The Eagles carried the momentum into doubles play, taking all three matches. Jacobus and regular teammate
CJ Lloyd (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) won No. 1 doubles (8-2), setting the stage for another dominant day on the purple courts. Ridpath and Williams showed that the future is bright for the Eagles, as the freshmen nearly swept No. 2 doubles (8-1).
Joshua Kimball (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) and
Cameron Fair (Sterling, Kan./Sterling) paired up in No. 3 doubles for another (8-1) win for UNW.
In the second matchup of the day, UNW took on Bethel University. Williams kept his singles record clean for the day (4-6, 6-0, 10-7), winning in No. 4 singles. Kimball added another victory for the Eagles, taking No. 5 singles (4-6, 6-4, 10-5) to the limit. All three pairings fell in doubles play, closing the day on a bittersweet note.
Northwestern will hit the road Tuesday, April 26, to take on Martin Luther College in the final week of UMAC action. The Eagles will be back home for a rematch from the early season defeat against the College of St. Scholastica, getting underway at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, to close the regular season.
