INDIANOLA, Iowa. – The Eagles' men's tennis team went south of the border to take on a pair of Iowa colleges over the weekend. The University of Northwestern faced off against Wartburg College at noon, followed by Simpson College at 3 p.m. The Eagles faltered against the Knights, going 2-7 in the first contest. The second round of play saw Northwestern back in stride, rolling 8-1 over the Storm.

Brett Jacobus (Lakeville, Minn. /Lakeville North) won No. 2 singles (7-6, retired) to get Northwestern in the left hand column. The sophomore ended a recent losing streak, providing the Eagles with a much-needed victory to lessen the damage heading into a double header.
Joshua Kimball (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) took the No. 5 singles match to the limit (6-2, 3-6, 10-7), but came up short. Doubles partners
Landon Ridpath (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech ) and
Derek Williams (Zimmerman, Minn./Elk River) earned Northwestern's second victory against Wartburg (8-5) in No. 2 doubles play.
Northwestern jumped back into control with the second appearance of the day, rolling over Simpson College. The Eagles' lone loss came in No. 1 singles.
Derek Williams (Zimmerman, Minn./Elk River) grabbed No. 4 singles (6-3, 6-1) in impressive fashion.
Cameron Fair (Sterling, Kan./Sterling) went the distance in No. 6 singles (4-6, 6-3, 10-7) for yet another Northwestern victory. All three doubles pairings dominated, cleaning up a nearly perfect performance.
The Eagles will head out of state once again next Saturday, traveling to La Crosse for another pair of contests. Northwestern will square off against Edgewood College and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse before coming back home to Reynolds Field.
