SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's tennis team shook off any doubt from the weekend with a doubleheader sweep Monday afternoon. The Eagles opened the Johnson Tennis Courts at Reynolds Field to host the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, and Northwestern defended the purple courts (9-0) confidently. Northwestern went across town to the Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville to take on North Central University in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) competition, and the Eagles wrenched out a dominant (9-0) victory to sweep the Rams on the season.

Karen Moe (Fargo, N.D./Fargo South ) returned to peak form, grabbing the victory in No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-4) for the purple and gold. The trio of
Jessica Henke (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North),
Brooke Lapinski (Chanhassen, Minn./Chanhassen), and
Rachel Bostrom (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) put on a perfect performance (6-0, 6-0) to keep things rolling. In doubles play, partners
Nikki Edin (Staples, Minn./Staples-Motley) and
Emily Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) grabbed the victory in No. 3 doubles play (8-1) in dominating fashion.
The Eagles kept perfection on the table as the women took on the North Central Rams. Moe again showed her return to early-season form with a commanding (6-1, 6-0) win in No. 1 singles. Bostrom got her taste of perfection (6-0, 6-0) in No. 3 singles. Both doubles pairings swept through the matches, winning convincingly. Moe and Lapinski cleaned up No. 1 doubles, while
Tina Matetich (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and Bostrom notched another win in No. 2 doubles.
The Northwestern women's tennis team will look to keep the Johnson courts perfect in 2016 with a pair of UMAC contests on Saturday, April 16, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Eagles will host Bethany Lutheran College before squaring off against Martin Luther College in the afternoon.
