UNW Advances to NCCAA National Tournament With 71-50 Win Over Judson

ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern women's basketball team will make its second-straight appearance at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Tournament after the Eagles cruised to a 71-50 win over Judson University (15-16) Saturday afternoon inside the Ericksen Center. UNW improves to 22-6 on the year with the victory.

Northwestern set the tone early and built a 19-8 advantage after the first quarter. The two teams duplicated their first-quarter performances of 19 (UNW) and eight (JU) points, as Northwestern led 38-16 at intermission.

UNW continued its offensive outburst in the second half, scoring 33 second-half points en route to securing the 71-50 win over the visiting Judson Eagles.

It was a career afternoon for freshman Taryn Tumbleson (Sherburn, Minn./Martin County West), who continues to shine, as the guard poured in a season-high 19 points to go along with three steals. Regan Cooper (Pella, Iowa/Pella) had a strong game on the block, netting 13 points and pulling down eight boards. Jessica Cole (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk) also reached double figures, scoring 10 points.

Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) broke the single-season steals record, swiping three steals Saturday to push her season tally to 97.

Northwestern shot the ball well, going 21-of-50 (42 percent) from the field and 5-of-12 (41.7 percent) from long range. UNW also turned in an outstanding effort on the defensive end, as the Eagles held Judson to 24.3 percent shooting from the floor and 15.4 percent from 3-point land.

UNW will now play March 16-19 in the NCCAA National Tournament in Winona Lake, Ind. (Grace College). The pairings for the national tournament will be announced next weekend. Fans can stay up-to-date on all of the latest women's basketball news by visiting www.unweagles.com
