Eagles Split With Augsburg Wednesday at Reynolds Field

ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern baseball team (6-12) split a non-conference doubleheader with visiting Augsburg College (10-8) Wednesday at Reynolds Field. In a pair of one-run contests, the Eagles used the long ball to prevail 8-7 in game one, before dropping the nightcap, 5-4.

Game One
Ryan Sutterer (Anoka, Minn./Anoka ) supplied the hot bat to lift the Eagles to their sixth win of the season, as the junior recorded a RBI single in the bottom of the first inning before launching a two-run bomb in the third.

After the Auggies struck for three runs in the top of the fourth, the Eagles answered back with four runs of their own to take an 8-7 lead. Tyler Osborn (Clive, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) highlighted the four-run fourth with a three-run dinger – his first home run of the season – to secure the win for Northwestern.

Braxton Lindow (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls), Bradley Spencer (Papillion, NE/Papillion South) and Sutterer all posted multi-hit games at the plate.

Troy Nelson (Buena Park, Calif. /Buena Park) worked the first six innings to pick up the victory on the hill, while Sutterer posted a 1-2-3 seventh to pick up the save.

Game Two
With the game tied at 4-4 after four innings of play, Augsburg put a run on the board in the top of the fifth to steal the win.

UNW scored in the home half of the third after Brady Arneson (Fosston, Minn./Fosston) tripled to left center, scoring Nathan Ehnstrom (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin). The Eagles put together a three-run fourth, as Sutterer blasted his second home run of the day and Erik Nyquist (Elk River, Minn./Pine Island) laced a two-run triple. Ehnstrom finished the contest with a pair of hits at the dish.

Tucker Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Homeschool) suffered the loss on the bump, surrendering five runs on eight hits, while fanning three.

Northwestern will travel to St. Bonifacius Saturday to play a doubleheader at Crown College. Fans can find more information at www.unweagles.com
