UNW Earns Split With Run-Rule Victory Over Macalester in Game Two

ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern (5-13) softball team exploded for a seven-run fourth inning to pick up a 12-3 five-inning run-rule win over Macalester College (7-11) in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader. With the victory, the Eagles earned a split on the day after the Scots took the opener, 4-1, at Reynolds Field.

Game One
In a 1-0 ballgame in the sixth inning, Macalester's Nikki Caicedo launched a three-run home run to propel the Scots to a 4-1 victory.

UNW chipped away at the deficit in the bottom of the sixth when Jennifer Ankrom (New Hampton, Iowa/New Hampton) drilled a RBI single off the right-field fence, scoring Ann Lokke (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis). Ankrom and Kaylee Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley Watkins) finished the contest with two hits apiece.

Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis) fanned four in six innings of work in the circle for UNW.

Game Two
After the Scots jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first frame, UNW responded with three runs in the second inning, two in the third and seven in the fourth to earn the 12-3 run-rule victory.

Ann Lokke (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis) sparked the offensive outburst, delivering a two-run single in the second to get the scoring started and then highlighting the seven-run fourth with a double to right-center that scored two. She finished 3-for-3 at the plate, while tallying four RBI.

Leadoff hitter Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) also posted a pair of RBI, while drawing three walks at the plate.

Meghan Schroeder (Big Lake, Minn./Spectrum) picked up the win in the circle, hurling the first four innings in the nightcap.

The Eagles will head to Augsburg College Thursday for a doubleheader with the Auggies. First pitch in game one is set for 4 p.m. Fans can find more information at www.unweagles.com
