FRIDLEY, Minn. – The University of Northwestern's men's tennis team competed against Hamline University Friday night at Lifetime Fitness in Fridley.
The Eagles were bested by the Pipers, as Hamline won the event by a score of 8-1. UNW drops to 2-1 on the season. Hamline 8, UNW 1CJ Lloyd (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) continued his perfect No. 1 singles run this season (6-3, 6-3) as the lone Eagle to notch a victory on the day. Jacobus kept the No. 2 singles close (6-4, 7-6), before dropping his second match of the season. Sophomore Joshua Kimball (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) took his No. 5 singles match to the end (6-7, 6-3, 10-7), but ultimately fell to Hamline's Ben Ekstein.Hamline swept doubles matches Friday night. The Eagles had previously lost only one doubles match this season, otherwise dominating against the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) and North Central University (7-2, 9-0). Brett Jacobus (Lakeville, Minn. /Lakeville North) fell (8-6) against the Pipers.
Men's tennis will resume competition on Saturday, February 20, against the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire at 10:30 a.m.
