ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern men's basketball team hung on for a 68-61 non-conference win over visiting Macalester College Tuesday night inside the Ericksen Center. With the victory, the Eagles head into Thanksgiving break 1-2.
After a low scoring first 10 minutes of play, the Eagles found their groove to take a 29-16 lead into the locker room. Northwestern extended that lead to 19 at both the 11:42 and 8:26 mark of the second half. The Scots then fought their way back into the game, trimming the UNW lead to one with 36 seconds to play, but an
Anderson Bazile Jr. (Houston, Tex./San Antonio Reagan) free throw, followed by
Will Gisler (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville)'s 3-of-4 effort at the line, gave the Eagles the win.
Will Gisler (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) had a monster night, as the senior poured in a team-high 17 points, while pulling down 16 boards to notch his first double-double of the year. Joining Gisler in double figures were
Anderson Bazile Jr. (Houston, Tex./San Antonio Reagan) and freshman
Tanner Youngberg (Pocahontas, Iowa/Pocahontas Area), who contributed 15 and 12 points, respectively. Gisler and Bazile both dropped 13 in the second half. Youngberg also distributed a game-high five assists.
Northwestern shot 42.6 percent from the floor, while Macalester finished the contest shooting at a 35.9 percent clip.
Northwestern will open the conference portion of its slate Dec. 2 when the University of Wisconsin-Superior visits the Ericksen Center. Fans can find more information at
