NCAA Playoff Preview: UNW Meets No. 3 UST in First Round of NCAA Playoffs

ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern football team will be making its first-ever NCAA Division Playoff appearance Saturday at the third-ranked University of St. Thomas. Kickoff at Palmer Field is slated for 12 noon. This will be the third meeting between the two programs, with the Tommies claiming the first two.

UNW's historic season was highlighted by a 37-15 road win over Eureka in the final week of the regular season, as the victory gave the Eagles the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) title. Northwestern finished the season 9-1 overall and 8-1 in loop play, with its lone loss coming to MacMurray.

Perennial power UST enters Saturday's contest a perfect 10-0 and champions of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). The Tommies wrapped up their perfect season with a 73-7 rout of St. Olaf last Saturday. St. Thomas advanced to the Division III National Championship game a season ago where it fell to Mount Union.
