ST. PAUL – The No. 24 University of Northwestern volleyball team made quick work of the visiting College of Saint Benedict (8-9) Friday night, as the Eagles swept (25-13, 25-16, 25-16) the Blazers inside the Ericksen Center. With Friday's victory, Northwestern improves to 18-3 overall.
UNW posted 58 points to CSB's 29, while the Eagles also notched seven service aces to the Blazers' one. Northwestern had another strong night offensively, hitting .310 and holding St. Ben's to a .048 hitting percentage.
Jackie Doering (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) led the UNW defense, racking up a match-high 25 digs and freshman
Kayla Tanner (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) had a trio of blocks in the middle to stuff CSB's attack. Offensively,
Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) slammed 17 kills to lead all players, while
Shanay Gonder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) also recorded a double-digit kill total after finished the night with 11 kills.
Freya Hanson (Otsego, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) had a strong night serving, posting three service aces.
