ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team secured a 5-0 victory over North Central in Wednesday afternoon's contest. With the win, the Eagles now rise to 6-3 record on the season.
Beginning the match, Northwestern came out ready as they were able to set the tone of the game. Throughout the first 20:00 of play, UNW fired off great some impressive shots attempts, but none were able to fall in the team's favor.
In a defensive-duo,
Dana Lehtinen (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) headed in a goal off of
Anna Martinson (Apple Valley, Minn./Homeschool)'s corner kick at the 14:30 mark. Shortly after,
Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) buried UNW's second goal to boost a 2-0 lead over NCU. Teammate
Emily Daubenmier (Kijabe, KE./Rift Valley Academy) helped within the action, as she snagged the assist.
To close the half, the Eagles recorded 22 shots.
As the second period took off,
Anna Hitterdal (St. Louis Park, Minn./Southwest Christian) waisted no time as she netted one at the 51' mark off of a ball from Norman to push the Eagles to a 3-0 lead over the Rams.
Capping off the mid-day match, the ladies tallied an own goal and one more from
Alysha Grosz (Hudson, Wis./Homeschool), who added her first goal on the season, to stamp a 5-0 victory over NCU. Defender
Abbey Lamfers (Edina, Minn./Edina) had a strong showing, as she noted the assist on the final goal of contest.
As a team, UNW marked 37 shots and 18SOG. The game leaders on the afternoon were Norman (8S / 4SOG / 1A), Lehtinen (2S / 1SOG / 1G), Hitterdal (2S / 2SOG / 1G), and Grosz (2S / 2SOG / 1G).
Northwestern will travel next to Ashland, Wis. for their next game on Saturday, October 8
