ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern football team kept its Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) title hopes alive with a 21-14 victory over Greenville College (2-7, 2-6) on Senior Day Saturday at Reynolds Field. The Eagles improve to 8-1 overall and 7-1 in league play.
The conference crown will be on the line next Saturday when the Eagles travel to Eureka College for a noon showdown.
Northwestern used a pair of
BJ Foster (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) first quarter touchdown runs to jump out to an early lead and senior
Kyle Anenson (Chanhassen, Minn./Chanhassen) tacked on an 8-yard scamper in the third quarter to account for UNW's 21 points on the afternoon. Foster finished the day with 69 yards on 17 carries to lead UNW's ground game.
Greenville's two scores came via a 35-yard touchdown pass in the opening frame and a 2-yard run early in the second quarter to even the score at 14-14.
Anenson's game-winning touchdown run was the lone score in the final 30 minutes of play.
Northwestern – which entered the game with a plus-7 mark in turnover margin – picked off three passes Saturday to halt the Panthers' passing game.
