Women’s Soccer Picks Up 2-0 Victory on Senior Day

ST. PAUL –  The University of Northwestern women's soccer team (9-6, 5-2) scored a pair of first-half goals to defeat the University of Wisconsin-Superior (1-14, 1-6), 2-0, on Senior Day Saturday at Reynolds Field.

Northwestern honored its five seniors (Jordan Lubben (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo ), Abbey Lamfers (Edina, Minn./Edina), Rachel Walmsley (Lino Lakes, Minn./Homeschool), Sally Keckeisen (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) and Katie Meinke (Victoria, Minn./Southwest Christian)) prior to the start of the match.

UNW held a distinct advantage in shots, as the Eagles outshot UWS 23-0.

The Eagles didn't waste any time getting on the board, as Dana Lehntinen found the back of the net less than six minutes into the contest. Anna Martinson (Apple Valley, Minn./Homeschool) assisted the freshman on the goal.

UNW extended its lead to two with a Megan Larsen (Appleton, Wis./Appleton East) goal in the 38' of the first half. Anna Hitterdal (St. Louis Park, Minn./Southwest Christian) was credited with the assist on Larsen's goal.

Anna Martinson (Apple Valley, Minn./Homeschool) fired five shots with all five being on goal to pace the Eagles' offensive attack.

The UNW backline had a strong showing Saturday, not allowing a Yellowjacket shot on goal.

UNW will travel to Minnesota Morris next Friday for a 3:15 p.m. contest with the Cougars. Fans can find more information at www.unweagles.com.
