Eagles Unable To Hold Back Morris In Regular Season Finale

MORRIS, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team fell short in its regular season finale, 1-0, to the University of Minnesota-Morris Friday afternoon. The Eagles finish the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) schedule with a 5-3 record, closing with a 9-7 overall record.

The home team got on the scoreboard first as they knocked in their first goal at the 10' mark to post an early 1-0 lead. Throughout the next 35:00 minutes of play, both teams continued to give it all they had.

Heading into halftime, UMM held onto its 1-0 lead.

During the second period, both teams battled with their best efforts. As the offensive scoring opportunities were kept at a minimum, the score remained the same as the contest came to a close. Unable to hold back the Cougars, the Eagles fell short 1-0 in their final game of the season.

Capping off the match, UNW totaled nine shots and two shots on goal, which came up shy to UMM's 13 shots and nine shots on goal. In the mid-day game, goalkeeper Samantha Dewey (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors) had an impressive showing as she caught eight saves, which outshined the Cougars keeper who tallied two.

The game leaders on the afternoon were Katie Meinke (Victoria, Minn./Southwest Christian) (3S / 1SOG) and Anna Hitterdal (St. Louis Park, Minn./Southwest Christian) (1S / 1SOG).

Northwestern, seeded No.4 in postseason play, will host Bethany Lutheran on Monday, October 31st, for a quarterfinal round contest. Visit www.unweagles.com for more information.
